Excursion (Alpine experience)

Sunday, September 21, 9:00-18:00

A trip to Bohinj Lake, Savica Waterfall and Vogel mountain resort will be organized on Sunday. The trip will start at 9 am from the bus station near Plemljeva villa. The bus will take us to Bohinj (approximately 40 minutes) with Slovenia`s largest glacial lake. Bohinj Lake lies between Bohinj's mountains, which rise from 1,600 to 2,864 meters.

From the lake we will take a one-hour walk to the start of Savica Waterfall path and then hike the remaining 500 odd steps (approximately 20 minutes) that zig-zag uphill through the woods and over streams. Savica river is the most important inflow of Bohinj Lake. Its water bursts from the underground of the Dolina sedmerih jezer (The Seven Triglav Lakes Valley) in the walls of Komarča as Savica Waterfall, which is the most famous Slovenian waterfall. On the way back the bus will take us from the entrance to Vogel ski resort cable car.

The cable car takes us directly from Bohinj Lake to a panoramic plateau. To reach Vogel mountain resort we will take a cable car to the upper cable car station (more than 1,500 meters above the sea level) with spectacular panoramic views of surrounding mountains and Bohinj Lake. Vogel is just opposite from central Julian Alps, which you will admire along the entire trip.

At the top you can also take the quad chairlift Orlove Glave. Next to the chairlift exit you will see a bell on your right – if you ring it, all your wishes are supposed to come true. To get back to the cable car you can either ride back down the chairlift or simply head down a gentle slope towards the cable car, enjoying a short and reasonably undemanding walk. After returning to upper Vogel cable car station we will have a lunch in one of Vogel mountain huts.

Either you can take the cable car or you can take a one-hour walk along Žagarjev graben back to the lake. On the way we will take a short rest at Zadnji Vogel mountain pasture that is also a part of Bohinj Cheese Trail. Some spots in the lower parts of the trail have a beautiful view of Bohinj Lake. The trail descends from 1500 to 500 m.

We will return back to Bled at approximately 6 pm.

The price for the trip including lunch is €19.50 (without a group discount, price does not include optional visit to Zadnji Vogel mountain pasture).

Don’t forget to take suitable hiking boots with you. You will need them for the trip.

In case of rain, a trip to Ljubljana (approximately 1 hour drive from Bled) will be organized.
